Kaya kerana internet

Pakaiannya semasa dia menjadi pengemis turut menjadi ikon fesyen.

- Agensi

How to configure alternative applications / versions to run from same command on Linux

Several programs installed in your system may perform same or similar functions., e.g. different text editors or different versions ofJava may be present in a single computer.
This may give choice to the users of a system, allowing each one of them to use a different program, if they desire. On the other hand, if the user has not specified a particular preference of program it sometimes becomes complicated. Have you ever faced such problems?
We have experienced these type of problems and tried to sort it out. Let us discuss about the commands that may help you out of your problem.
In our example, we are going to create a link called jstack, which will have a generic name ofjstack. This link and generic name are going to be associated with a version of Java, present in our system.
Implementing Our Alternative
Issue the following command to check :-
/usr/sbin/alternatives –config java
In our system there were 2 programs that provide java, like
Selection Command
———————————————–
1 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.5.0-gcj/bin/java
2 /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-icedtea-1.7.0.0/bin/java
Step 1

Issue the following command :-
alternatives –install /usr/bin/jstack jstack /usr/java/latest/bin/java 3
It will set the proper alternatives. This command installs a link jstack under/usr/bin directory, links it to a generic name of jstack (in this case), which in turn is linked to the java application.
Step 2
To check whether alternatives has been properly installed or not, issue the command :-
# /usr/sbin/alternatives –config java
Now,
There are 3 programs which provide 'java'.
Selection Command
———————————————–
* 1 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.5.0-gcj/bin/java
2 /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.7.0-icedtea-1.7.0.0/bin/java
+ 3 /usr/java/latest/bin/java

Enter to keep the current selection[+], or type selection number: 3
Thus alternatives can be properly set to run from a common command in Linux.

Around two million people were estimated to have shown up to a stretch of the A40 autobahn in the Ruhr area on Sunday for the ‘Still Life’ festival which promised to replace speeding cars with a huge range of cultural events.

The project - part of the Ruhr 2010 European capital of culture season – involved completely closing the 60-kilometre stretch of the motorway between Duisburgand Dortmund, filling it with up to 20,000 tables for people to sit, eat and experience an enormous range of performances.

Things on offer range from literature readings, local poetry performances and rappers to the Eppendorfer cultural heritage group’s display of 1900s rural life, and the Dortmund Korean association’s display of traditional costumes and music.

The tables were set up on the Dortmund to Duisburg side of the road – the other side has been left empty for people to ride bikes or skate up and down from performance to performance.

Kota Kinabalu National Park & Mount Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu National Park is Malaysia’s first World Heritage. Designated by UNESCO in December 2000 for its ‘outstanding universal values’, the park covers an area of 754 square kilometers and surrounds the majestic Mount Kota Kinabalu, the tallest mountain in Malaysia (and fourth tallest in Southeast Asia). The hiking of Mount Kota Kinabalu up to the Low’s Peak ‘summit’ at 4100 meters is the goal of many trekkers. If climbers wish to go further up, the climb is on bare granite rock. The Rafflesia plant, which has the largest single flower in the world, is also found in the Kota Kinabalu National Park.
This article is taken from the segment, 50+1 Places To Visit from the 50+1 Malaysia book. More detailed explanations on these places or other interesting places to visit in Malaysia, and also more on our truly Malaysian Manglish or celebrities (like Siti & Mawi) are found in the book. As author QuaChee mentions, this book is for everyone… and even Malaysians will be suprise to learn so much more about the country!
